The publisher aims to increase realism in the game, adding in such features as goalies that can be interfered with more realistically, as well as net battles. Putting the focus back on the ice, EA Sports has updated this year's version of the series with a new "Full Contact" physics engine. While NHL preseason games don't start until September 19, this week's release of EA Sports' annual puck sim will signal a welcome end to a tragedy-filled offseason. In the future we’d fully expect for EA Play to persist into the next-generation of consoles, especially as the PS5 is backwards compatible with PS4 games.
Sadly however, not all of the games available on the Xbox version of EA Play will be available on the PS4 version of the service.
